And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho
with his disciples and a great number of people, blind
Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side
begging.
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he
began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou SON OF DAVID,
HAVE MERCY ON ME.
And many charged him that he should hold his peace:
but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David,
have mercy on me.
And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called.
And they call the blind man, saying unto him, be of
good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to
Jesus.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, what wilt thou
that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him,
Lord, that I might receive my sight.
And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made
thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and
followed Jesus in the way.
Mark 10:46-52
1. Blind Bartimaeus was blind from birth. Blindness
from birth is a very difficult medical condition to
cure. Famous people all over the world have had this
condition and are unable to be cured with modern
medical science.
And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho
with his disciples and a great number of people, BLIND
BARTIMAEUS, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway
side begging.
Mark 10:46
2. When blind Bartimaeus heard the unusual sound of
many people passing by, he realized it was his only
chance to be seen to by Jesus.
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began
to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou SON OF DAVID, HAVE
MERCY ON ME.
Mark 10:47
3. Many people tried to drown out his cries and suppress
him but he could not be suppressed. He knew that
was his one and only chance. He called upon the mercy
of God and not upon his rights as a Jew or a righteous
person. When you call upon the mercy of God, there is
no legal reason for the love of God to be withheld from
you.
And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but
he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have
mercy on me.
Mark 10:48
4. Jesus called for him to come. Jesus is calling for you
today.
And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to BE CALLED.
And they call the blind man, saying unto him, be of good
comfort, rise; he calleth thee. And he, casting away his
garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
Mark 10:49-50
5. Jesus asked him what he wanted. He said that he
wanted his sight. He could have asked for money. He
could have asked for clothes. But he asked for his
miracle healing.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, WHAT WILT
THOU that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto
him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
Mark 10:51
6. Jesus gave him what he asked for. Today, Jesus will
give you what you ask for.
And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made
thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and
followed Jesus in the way.
Mark 10:52
7. The miracle healing of blind Bartimaeus demonstrates
the love of God, the compassion of Jesus Christ, the
greatness of Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy
Spirit.
… For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he
might destroy the works of the devil.
1 John 3:8
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten
Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
8. “Thou Son of David, have mercy on me” was the cry
of Bartimaeus to Jesus which led to his salvation and
healing. Call on Jesus today and ask for His mercy.
Ask Him to wash away your sins and you will be
saved.
a. God will have mercy on you today because He sent His Son
to die on the cross to save you from your sins.
b. Receive the mercy of God, which comes to you through the
blood of Jesus.
